Abstract

Qualitative studies regarding school counselors’ perceptions in building partnerships with linguistically diverse families (LDF) are lacking in the literature. The number of linguistically diverse students however is increasing. School counselors play a critical role in creating a welcoming climate towards these students in the school environment. The purpose of this study is to learn about the perceptions of school counselors’ partnerships with LDF. Qualitative research methods help shed light on how to build partnerships that integrate the school and community. Data collection was conducted with eight school counselors from the United States, using an open-ended online interview method and analyzed with content analysis. Thematic analysis identified four distinct domains which tapped into shaping school counselors’ perceptions in building partnerships with LDF.
